Cursillo:  Three Days of Reflection, A World of Difference

What is Cursillo?

Presbyterian Cursillo is designed for members of the Presbyterian Church who seek growth in their faith and greater commitment to their Christian community.  the goal of Cursillo is to guide participants into an ever closer and more personal relationship with Christ, to heighten their joy, deepen their faith, invigorate their life in Christ so they can make a difference in the environment in which they live.  The word cursillo means "short course."  This retreat is a "short course" toward experiencing a vibrant Christian life.

What can I expect?

The weekend is  centered around talks on different aspects of the Christian life.  The weekend is filled with worship, singing and other fun activities.  The experience is enjoyable, thought-provoking, welcoming, and relational.  A highlight of the  weekend is a series of talks centered around these themes:
  • Liberation - understanding obstacles that keep us from a full life in Christ
  • Christ - encountering Jesus, our living Lord, anew
  • Christian Life - inspiring and equipping us to follow Christ and make a difference in our world
  • Perseverance - deepening our determination and commitments
You will have an opportunity to listen and learn, to relax free from the distractions of the world, and to reflect on your own faith and relationship with God.  You will not be expected to answer questions, give any speeches or be made to feel uncomfortable.

Cursillo is an ongoing worldwide spiritual renewal movement intended to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders.  The movement's approach seriously considers the model of Christ's servanthood and encourages Christ's disciples to act in ways appropriate to being "a servant of all."

The Cursillo experience begins with a 72-hour short course in Christianity, comprised of fifteen talks by lay and clergy on the themes of God's grace, disciplines of Christian discipleship, and what it means to be the church.  The course is wrapped in prayer and meditation, daily Holy Communion.  The "Cursillo community," made up of those who have attended a Cursillo short course, support the 72-hour experience with a prayer vigil, by preparing and serving meals, and other acts of love and self-giving.  The Cursillo Short Course typically begins Thursday evening an concludes Sunday evening.
